By Danielle: I can hear what you’re thinking… Who has the time – nay, the desire – to come up with plans and extra tasks for themselves these days? However, personal development is a process that will be with you for your entire life. May as well embrace it! It will help you assess your skills, qualities, and will help you build the high quality life that you envision for happiness.
Your personal development plan can help you with all aspects of your life and help you become more self-aware both at home, at work, and in your personal relationships. Let’s explore a few steps you can take in order to begin.
Perform a S.W.O.T. on Your Life
A well-designed personal development plan will address your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Roadblocks or threats in all areas of your life. Your plan will identify your strengths so that you can continue to grow them. Addressing your weaknesses will help you to embrace the idea of new opportunities, and help you to recognize when a new door is opening. Becoming well acquainted with the areas in your life that you wish to improve will help you become aware of any roadblocks or threats along the way.
Identify Your Resources
Take a good look at the resources you have available to perform specific tasks. For example, if you decide you want to start a new side business, what resources do you have at your fingertips to get started? What things do you need, what things can you live without, what tasks can you do yourself, what might you need to outsource? This works in every single aspect of your life. You may realize you already have all the skills inside of you to accomplish all of the things you want to. However, you may realize that you need to bring in some outside help and resources to help you stay on track, keep you motivated, and get you to your goal.
Recognize Development Areas
When you perform your S.W.O.T. in each area of your life, you will discover internal and external things which may be blocking your success. For example, you may hold the belief you’ll never have enough money to save for the future. Because of that, when you do get “extra” money, you tend to blow it right away on all the things you feel you missed out on before. This is a limiting belief about money that a lot of people have because most people think money is a finite resource… when it’s not. Money is a man made construct. We can always make more, especially when we put our minds to it and our hearts into it.
Build Better Relationships
One of the most shocking aspects of creating a self-development plan is how much it can help you with your relationships. When you realize that you can really only control your personal behavior and actions, it becomes easier to manage your relationships and keep them healthy. When you become self-aware enough to take your relationships deeper, you naturally become more sensitive to the needs of those in your life that are close to you. This can bring profound changes to your life, and create beautiful shifts in the way that you approach challenging situations. Along with this, will come a naturally deeper self-love as well.
Now doesn’t that sound wonderful?
Whatever you want to work on can be done via your personal development plan. Naturally, your plan will be unique to anyone else’s plan. The end goal doesn’t matter as much as developing the plan that you need to get where you want to go.
Blessings on your journey, always!
Love and Light,
