By Annelize: We tend to look at the bigger picture or goals in life. We focus on a new job, a new house, a new city, job, or school. The focus is also on the bigger issues and problems in life. We live for each new event, each new goal, and the latest thing ahead we have to chase. What we tend to forget is that life does not consist of big events or moments. Life consists of the small little steps that add up to become the big things in life.
How do you change your life? One small decision or change every day over a period of time. It could be over months or years. A constant change every day brings forth new changes. If you start to exercise today, just ten minutes adds up to five hours a month of exercising. If you start to write the book you also wanted to, and spend only thirty minutes a day, you will have written fifteen hours in a month, hundred and eighty hours a year. We often do not realize how small acts add up to create something new in our lives.
It is part of being mindful, of living in the moment, of being present, each and every day. Life consists of the now, the past is gone, and the future is not guaranteed. So the only real thing is now, this present moment. The wonderful thing about this present moment is that it creates our future, our tomorrow. So if we can be living fully present, and make those small little changes now, and keep on doing them every day, we will surely change our lives for the better. We will be able to create whatever we want. Those big moments we are focusing on and chasing in life, those that we aim at, and all else go by. We forget to live life fully as we live from event to event. Focusing on just this small moment ensures that we live life more to the fullest and that in every moment we are present.
Even with problems, we are sometimes focused on the big challenge, the totality of it, and it seems so huge. It seems impossible to solve, like a huge obstacle that is in front of us. A Mount Everest that we need to overcome. I have learned that if we take this big problem and just work on it each day, see what is possible to handle, solve, and give attention to, just in one moment, slowly but surely we are working towards solving and addressing a huge problem over a period of time. We always feel that things need to be sorted or dissolved now. We are a society that needs instant solutions, and instant gratification and that creates so much unnecessary stress and pain in the long run. If we take that problem and break it down into bite-size pieces, it will be addressed, in a much better state of feeling more empowered, knowing that we are handling it. It will take time to really dissolve it, but it is ok, in the end, it will be solved.
I challenge you today, to just take a small moment to stop, take a breath, and see how you can change your life. By spending a small amount of time on the things we want to achieve, or addressing the pressing issues one bite at a time, within a month we will have achieved constant growth and change, within six months more, and after a year huge change has happened. We always tend to use the excuse that there is no time for this, but if we just add five or ten minutes a day for the things we want to have or change, we can achieve that which seems impossible.
Love and Light,
Annelize
