By Psychic Patrick: In 1977, a humanist and psychologist named Ken Deitschwelt devised a color wheel and decided to teach these as the official colors of the chakras.
Needless to say, he had no authentic guru or teacher from the Far East to guide him. In truth, he created the system himself—essentially sucking his thumb and inventing a concept. And here we are, more than half a century later, with this far-fetched system widely accepted as the “normal” chakra color scheme.
Naturally, this rainbow color-wheel system has no roots in India and no genuine connection to the elemental energies traditionally associated with the chakras. It essentially replaced the more authentic systems found in ancient Indian teachings. Sadly, many so-called modern “gurus” in India continue to teach this rainbow model simply because it has become so widely accepted internationally. They feel compelled to align with the global trend to retain students—and the associated income. The reality is, the “guru business” in India is thriving, but it isn’t always ethical, and many self-proclaimed teachers are making a lucrative living promoting these modern systems.
It stands to reason that some of them must know they are teaching something that contradicts traditional Vedic knowledge. Yet they continue, unwilling to risk losing followers or financial support. Currently, there are about 300 million people practicing yoga globally. Of those, at least 50 to 60 million are likely using this particular color-wheel system in their chakra meditations. And yet—so few experience any real breakthroughs. Isn’t that a bit of a smoking gun?
Is it not obvious that we’ve been misled?
Now, I understand I may be ruffling a few feathers here. When I began my own journey with chakra meditation nearly four decades ago, I too believed this system to be correct. It took me over a decade to sense that something was off. Only through deep meditative practice did I come to realize that the popular teachings didn’t reflect the truth.
For those truly interested in unlocking the real potential of the chakras, I encourage you to explore the ancient Indian systems. Look into what the original gurus actually taught regarding the color correspondences—and you may be surprised. Aligning with these traditional insights could bring about profound transformation and a deeper understanding.
In truth, one can use any color in any chakra. However, every color you associate with a chakra will have a specific energetic effect. It’s crucial to understand the unique qualities of each color—the vibrations, emotional resonances, and mental associations—so that you can consciously choose the effects you wish to create in each energy center.
I understand that many of you may be deeply invested in the modern color-wheel system. Still, I urge you to question it. Dig deeper. Use your common sense and your intuitive wisdom to navigate this inner landscape. Doing so will make your practice far more effective and versatile.
To me, it seems that many are stumbling through the dark, being led by those who are also blind. That’s not healthy. If you’re serious about unlocking the deeper powers of the self—the siddhis and spiritual capacities—then your practice must be free from the pollution of popular new-age concepts that lack true grounding.
No matter how widely promoted these ideas have been—by publishing houses, mass media, or now by algorithms policing our digital space—the truth remains. It is there for those ready to seek it. But you must be willing to ask the deeper questions… and boldly venture where few have dared to go.
