By Delphia: It’s that time of year again, Valentine’s Day! Yet, here you are, single and all alone. However, you don’t have to be sad or dwell on the fact that you don’t have a partner. There are many great ways to focus on self-care and attract good people into your life.
It can be difficult at best to think happy thoughts, especially when your friends are receiving flowers and gifts of chocolates or sweet stuffed teddy bears at their desks. Focus on the good things in your life and remember that your day will come. You could get together with some gal pals and throw a gal pal party for the special day. You could even send each other simple gifts to remind each other that life is still good, even if you don’t have a partner.
Avoid feeling sorry for yourself and put your attention on self-care. Go visit a nursing home and visit with some elderly ladies and brighten up their day. Chances are that they’re lonely too so you’ll fulfil your need, and someone else’s need all at the same time.
Call an old friend and catch up on your lives. This works especially well if they too are single on Valentine’s day. Remind yourself that you’re worthy and valuable and that being alone on this day by no means defines who or what you are.
Avoid logging into social media accounts this particular day. It can make you feel sad when you see what others may be getting, and you’re not. Instead, write your future self a letter of how your life is going to be in five year or ten years or whatever you choose. Then, date the envelope five or ten years in the future and put it in a safe place to open that Valentine’s Day.
Schedule your annual doctor visits this time of year. Focus on taking care of your whole self and start with your medical care. If you avoid going to the doctor because you are so busy with work, this may be an excellent time to practice some self-care and love yourself enough to make sure you’re healthy.
Loving yourself is the first step to finding that perfect someone who will cherish you for the rest of your life. Focus on caring for you this day and every day. Plan a spa day, a long soak in a nice bubble bath with a good book, a glass of wine, and early to bed.
Consider watching some funny movies or some fun chick flicks that you don’t normally watch. Make it your special day to treat yourself to a nice dinner (even if it is at home and not out with friends) and make your afternoon evening all about you for a change.
Send someone in your life (mother, grandmother, friend…) a sweet card and tell them how much you appreciate their influence in your life. Be intentional about caring for yourself this day and remember to love yourself, after all, you have to love yourself before someone else can love you.
Love and Light,
