Ghosts: Busting the Myths about Ghosts

Do you have a problem with ghosts in your life? Perhaps you need some hints on how to approach the entities trying to contact you? Read on for the answers.

Have you ever felt like there was an unearthly presence in your house? Perhaps you felt abnormally cold when you walked into a particular room or your intuition may have told you that something felt a little weird? If you’ve experienced these kinds of sensations you may have a ghost in your house. But don’t be frightened! The modern film industry has given ghosts a bad reputation, in order to make buckets-full of cash. What do we really know about ghosts?

In simple terms a ghost is the soul of a dead person that appears in a visible form to the living. Ghosts are often solitary and they haunt particular locations that have memories and meaning to them. When I’m talking ghosts I’m not talking about a white bed sheet with holes cut out at the eyes! Descriptions of these apparitions vary widely from completely invisible presence that is more of just a creepy feeling to foggy shapes to life-like visions.

There has always been a certain fascination with ghosts in popular culture. If you take a look at some of the top grossing horror films like ‘The Ring’, ‘The Blair Witch Project’, ‘The Sixth Sense’ and more recently ‘Paranormal Activity’ you’ll see what I mean. Fear makes money! But belief in ghosts isn’t just Hollywood-specific. Believing in ghosts is widespread through many cultures and religions. Most religious practices revolving around death are designed to give rest to the spirits of the deceased. What’s so scary about that?

Boo! Should We Fear Ghosts?

If you feel a ghost present it’s probably the spirit of someone you knew, like a friend or most likely an ancestor. In modern folklore cultures ghosts are seen as a good thing, kind of like a “blast from the past” from your respected, albeit dead, family members. In certain cultures ghosts are revered. Countries such as Japan, Korea, and China all have celebrations where ghosts are celebrated. And don’t forget All Saint’s Day and Halloween, which may have become more commercial of late, but were initially created to celebrate the spirits and souls of the dead.

Mexico’s Day of the Dead is a popular global holiday that focuses on gathering friends and families to pray for and remember the dead. It’s a three day celebration that starts on October 31 and goes until the 2nd of November, thus comprising Halloween and All Saint’s Day. Traditionally families go to the cemeteries to build private altars honouring the deceased and decorate them with sugar skulls, flowers and the favourite foods of the departed. The intent is to encourage visits by the souls, to connect with them. But it’s not all tears and pounding of chests! These celebrations can have a humorous tone as friends and family remember funny anecdotes about the departed and have a good laugh!

That said, due to the increase in scary movies that revolve around ghost stories, more and more people fear the idea of ghosts. Ghosts are often thought to be deceased people that are out looking for revenge or they’re considered to be imprisoned on earth for having done bad things to others. Some people believe that the appearance of a ghost is an omen of death. I personally don’t think so. I think that if you’re experiencing an apparition someone is simply trying to communicate with you. So, what are you going to do about it?

So, you’ve got a ghost that wants to talk! There are a few ways to approach this. Let’s have a look at some ideas:

1.Have a Yak: If you’re scared about communicating with the ghost on your own, then you could just try speaking to them one-on-one. But depending on how advanced you are as a medium, you may not be able to hear what they’re saying. They’ll hear you but you still won’t understand why they’re there in the first place.

2.Try out a Ouija Board: The Ouija board is known as a spirit board used to talk to spirits. It’s a flat board with marked with letters of the alphabet and the numbers 0-9. The words ‘YES’ and ‘NO’ are placed at the top and there is a ‘GOODBYE’ at the bottom. A planchette is used as a movable indicator of the spirit’s message by spelling out words during the séance.  Creates in 1890, it was first regarded as a harmless game but there are many accounts of séances gone wrong and it’s a tool that should be used with caution.

3.Talk with a Psychic Medium: I don’t want to come off as biased, but I really do think that if you’ve got ghost problems you should talk with me or one of the other mediums here at Life Reader! Our years of experience with channelling ghosts and providing a safe area for séances will result in the answers you’re looking for.

Channelling 101

Through traditional channelling contact is made between a psychic here on earth and an entity from the spirit world. The information that the spirit has is communicated through the human being, the ‘channel’, through their higher level of consciousness. Essentially the ghost speaks through the psychic. A channelling session can be held either in person, over the phone or via Skype. The psychic meditates into a semi-conscious state known as a trance. It’s a very intense experience as the ghost that has been present in spirit is now within the body of the channelling psychic! But you have nothing to fear with us: you’re in good hands. If you’re interested in contacting the spirits that are present in your life, get in touch with us. We can help advise you on the best methods to approach this particular experience. Our trained psychics know how to channel safely. Aren’t you curious about why you’ve got a visitor in your house? Perhaps there is an important message trying to be communicated with you.
