The Chakras And Their Meanings

By Rani: Chakras are all around the body. They are a vital life force linking and connecting all around you. Everything around you also has these chakra points. There are additional chakras for instance the “earth Chakra” located six inches to four feet below the body. Imagine each field the chakra manages being a different colour, sort of like heat mapping. These fields around you affect your mood, diet and sleep. Working with your chakras has been linked to longevity, mental clarity, emotional balance and better overall well-being.

Working from the bottom of your spin upward the order of the chakras are:

1. Muladhara – The Root Chakra – Colour: Red
2. Svadhishthana – The Sacral Chakra – Colour: Orange
3. Manipura – The Solar Plexus Chakra- Colour: Yellow
4. Anahata – The Heart Chakra – Colour: Green
5. Vishuddha – The Throat Chakra – Colour: Light Blue
6. Ajna – The Third Eye Chakra – Colour: Dark Blue
7. Sahasrara – The Crown Chakra – Colour: Violet White

1rani2 Muladhara – The Root Chakra:
Root Chakra in Sanskrit means “Root Support”. The Root chakra is located at the base of the spine. It maintains security, survival and your path in the world. By security I mean the basic needs such as a roof over your head, food, water, sleep and your physical health. If so your root chakra may be more balanced than you recognize. When in balance you may feel as if your being is still and everything around you is balanced.

Svadhishthana – The Sacral Chakra:
The Sacral Chakra in Sanskrit translates to “sweetness”. The sacral chakra is located in the lower abdomen and womb. Svadhishthana governs passion, procreation, lust, satisfaction and sensuality. This is in charge of your senses and how those senses bring you pleasure. This chakra is about everything that is sweet in your life. It brings vitality through the enjoyment you have in your life. When in balance it allows you to have enough instinct to navigate through life.

Manipura – The Solar Plexus Chakra:
The Solar Plexus Chakra in Sanskrit means “Lustrous gem”. It is located in your solar plexus, the area above your belly button. It is in charge of your willpower, self-confidence and firmness.  When in balance and activated this chakra helps you have personal power in the world. You will also feel as if you have a lot of free will.

Anahata – The Heart Chakra:
The Sanskrit translation for this means “unstruck” this means a sound that is made without any two strings striking. It is located in the center of the chest. It is in charge of romance, breath, balance, affairs and harmony.  When this chakra point needs are fulfilled you have balance in receiving nurture and love. You feel cared for and hold a lot of self love.

Vishuddha – The Throat Chakra
The throat chakra in Sanskrit means “purification”. It is located in the throat area. It administers speech, communication and creative expression. When in balance we are able to let things go. Mostly matters around self-inflicted guilt are able to heal and pass over. Our creative expression comes from how we react to our surroundings and vent about it in real time. We learn from the mistakes we have made and turn them into lessons. You will suffer less from anxiety, depression and confusion.

Ajna – The third Eye Chakra
In Sanskrit this translates to “command”. In order to activate it you need to overcome the illusion of good and evil. Ultimately reaching this state of balance will make you your own Guru. You will reach a certain level of spiritual enlightenment. You will know it is active if you are able to overcome past traumas and events effortlessly. The art of letting go will be with you.

Sahasrara – The Crown Chakra
In Sanskrit, Sahasrara means “Thousand petalled”. It is located at the top of the head. Pure awareness, enlightenment and the ability to end life cycles are what the Crown Chakra represents. When active you will have high aspiration and a lot of creativity. When overactive it can lead to insanity and delusions. So be careful how far you decide to tap into the Crown Chakra as it is very intense when over active.

Each Chakra is linked with different organs within the body. This is how it affects your body, mental attributes, disease, colours, sounds and psychic abilities. If you are lacking in certain aspects of your life, figure out which Chakra is being affected. After doing so, you can look into meditations and routines to help activate it to bring balance into your life.
