By Melanie: Have you ever just sat and stared at an animal? More specifically a cat or a dog? I am an avid animal lover. I have a cat myself and she has become a huge part of love and therapy in my world. I would even go as far as saying she is part of my family.
Animals are more than just these other beings on this planet that we have to share it with. They are more than just something to eat, or something we have to put up with. They have souls, and a purpose just like us. Just because animals can’t actually speak with a voice does not mean they can not actually communicate with us. As I’m writing this I’ve realized I may actually do multiple blogs about animals because they truly are inspiring to me, as they should be to you.
This particular article is meant to be about moments. Where animals have situations in the moment that we can learn from them. What do I mean by this? Think of a dog for instance, if you have one or you know someone who has one, that dog’s happiest moment is in the NOW. Not hours ago, not in the future, but right now. It’s happy to see its owner, it’s happy to be playing, or being petted. It’s so excited, it’s owner came home from wherever they came home from.
We all need to take a page from that dog’s philosophy. My cat in particular is a perfect example. She doesn’t care about what happened five minutes ago, or what will happen five minutes from now. She cares about right this moment. She wants food, or to be pet and she’s thrilled to be getting just that. These animals have short lives. They just want to be here, be loved and for us to let them love us(in a perfect non abusive world anyways).
When was the last time you just LOVED? Without asking or expecting anything in return? When was the last time you just enjoyed the moment? Truly, completely stopped and enjoyed the moment without worrying about the past or the future? I would put money it would be hard for you to remember. I am not telling you the live life carelessly, but I am telling you to find time to stop and enjoy life. Life is SHORT. We are only here for so long, and before you know it, it’s over. Do you want to be remembered or remember yourself as the person who just worked and never stopped and loved, and slowed down and enjoyed? Or do you want to look back and say, wow I really had some great moments.
There’s a difference between really living and just living. Find the time. Make time, visit the people you have been meaning to. Take that vacation that you just haven’t lost the weight for. Slow down. This world will eat us up. I live in the United States and the culture here is all about money and careers and the fast pace of getting a head and people forget what life is about. Take a step back, look at an animal, or a kid and really take a lesson from them. If you find your head spinning, and there are things that you want that just seem a little out of reach, you probably just need to step back and breathe a little.
I have a client who recently inspired some of this (and my cat). This client is struggling with a situation that they are trying to heal and I reminded them to just live in the moment. Sometimes we forget to be thankful in the moments of stress. Sometimes we forget to enjoy what is really here. Life truly is a blessing. You opened your eyes today, you are able to read this? You are blessed! I hope you have a wonderful day, spread love wherever you go, slow down, like my cat! Lay in the sun and enjoy the “in the moment” times!! The more you do it.
Love and Light,
Melanie
